I am just trying to get use to Twitter and am following you. Its Helen from the Ubuntu forums. Twitter and Ubuntu forum name "helliewm". I can't work out how to send you a Twitter message. I downloaded ALSA Mixer in Hardy which solved my sound problems. My sound was crap with both my NVidia 8500 GT graphics card and my Intel GMA 950 card. ALSA Mixer solved the problems.ALSA Mixer is in the Hardy repos.
