I've just suffered PC World and bought a netbook/laptot. I didn't get an eee, I got the Advent 4211 netbook.

It's very shiny! It is a Dixon's branded MSI Wind with an Intel Atom N270 CPU running at 1600 Mhz, an 80GB SATA drive and 1GB DDR2 (which is allegedly upgradeable).

The only drawback I can see is that it comes with WindowsXP! (which I'm just about to fix!)

I'm going to try the Ubuntu "Netbook Remix". This seems to be some extra packages for hardy designed for this hardware.

w00t!

I'm just playing with KDE 4.1. It's still clunky around the edges. But it's very delicious candy.

Once I've got it set up I'm tempted to take it to the Pembury so I can publicly wank over it..

Oh hell yeah. Just sit in the corner of the pub sipping a pint very slowly while netting.

[info]elpenguin is selling his Eee 700 'cos it's too small for his fat fingers. Half price. OH GOD IF I HAD A HUNDRED-ODD QUID SPARE.

What's it like? How does it compare with the eee?

Not used an eee. It's supposed to be very similar to the 10inch eee though. The keyboard is normal - its like a portable subnotebook rather than a toy.

There is already a big modder community around it - people have put hacked versions of OSX on them etc.

I like my 7inch eee, but it *is* very hard to type on.

http://forums.msiwind.net/general-discussion/msi-wind-specifications-benchmarks-singapore-sample-t25.html

Has a photo of a wind and an eee together.

Note that the avent is a rebadged wind, and is £70 cheaper. (They are otherwise identical).

Interesting. The wind does look a little more like a real machine and the keyboard looks better.

Cool.

I was thinking about reinstalling my eee, but the provided software pretty much works for everything I want to do (basically wifi and firefox).
