I have some news:

I had an interview on Wednesday and I have a job starting on Monday 15th! Yay!

This is where agreed direct debits are useful, assuming the company are well-behaved, e.g. Npower are cowboys, British Gas cost more but have been tolerable to deal with, Vodafone are fine, etc.

(Direct debit is handing them the keys to your account, but any funny business opens them to all manner of LARTing 'cos funny business with direct debits is banking fraud. Npower played fast and loose with direct debits with us, I wrote a short email to Ofgem and got a babbling apology letter with a cheque for 30 quid to go away and not pursue the issue from Npower soon after.)
